movies; the good and the bad

I.                    Analysis of movies

A.      Movies I love

1.       Title : Borat
Starring: Sacha Baron Cohen

Information:Borat Sagdiyev is a TV reporter of a popular show in Kazakhstan as Kazakhstan's sixth most famous man and a leading journalist. He is sent from his home to America by his government to make a documentary about American society and culture. Borat takes a course in New York City to understand American humor. While watching Baywatch on TV, Borat discovers how beautiful their women are in the form of C. J. Parker, who was played by actress Pamela Anderson who hails from Malibu, California. He decides to go on a cross-country road trip to California in a quest to make her his wife and take her back to his country. On his journey Borat and his producer encounter a country full of strange and wonderful Americans, real people in real chaotic situations with hysterical consequences.

Impact/ reflection: I am a complete fan of this flick for many reasons, this movie contains reactions from real people, and the only actual actors were sacha that played Borat, his assistant and his wife at the end of the movie. Sacha is not only a great actor but he has a lot of guts he absolutely took this movie to the limit. This movie was not only laugh out loud funny but it had an immense amount of shock value.

2.       title: the other guys
Starring: will Ferrell, mark Wahlberg

Information: Two mismatched New York City detectives seize an opportunity to step up like the city's top cops whom they idolize, only things don't quite go as planned. Even though this main idea has been used before, this is the funniest and my personal favorite right over rush hour.

Impact/reflection: this movie highly impressed me because a comedy can only contain a few funny parts or memorable segments, but this movie had jokes all over the place, it was literally one after another after another after another it just wouldn’t stop. One more thing that I liked about this movie was that one of my favorite actors participated as one of the starring crew, this would be will Ferrell. The beauty of the combination of mark Wahlberg and will, would be how will’s humorous being accents marks total serious and dry humor during the movie making it an absolute pleasure to watch if you’re looking for a few good laughs.

3.       Title:insidious
Starring: Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne and Ty Simpkins

Information:shortly after moving, a family discovers that dark spirits have possessed their “home” and that their son has inexplicably fallen into a coma. Trying to escape the haunting and save their son, they move again only to find out that it was not their house that was haunted, but it was their son.

Impact/ reflection- honestly I’ve never been so scared by a horror film in my life. What I found interesting about this movie was the way that the spirits in the flick would haunt the family it was much more personal making the viewer get a personal feel as well. This was probably a key part of the movie that got me sold. Another would have to be the state that the family was in, it was a pretty depressing one and this made the movie even more suspenseful. I’ve spoken to many people about the effect this movie had on me, not may have had the same impression, I believe this is because they didn’t consider the personal feel of the movie.

4.       Title: inception
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Ellen Page

Information: In a world where technology exists to enter the human mind through dream invasion, a highly skilled thief is given a final chance at redemption which involves executing his toughest job to date: Inception.

Impact / reflection: I’ve never seen a movie so mind freaking as this one. I didn’t suspect much when I heard and saw the trailer for this movie, and I’m not sure why I didn’t. When I did see this movie though I was on a flight heading for Boston, it seemed almost as if I was destined to see it I was all the way in the back on a jet blue flight with a separate screen just for me. the scenario was perfect. Anyway I did not understand nearly half of what was happening the first time I saw it but I kind of had an idea of what was happening, plus the scenes were absolutely spectacular. But the second time I saw it, it was amazing I had captured every meaning the movie contained and the experience was just stellar. Just the whole concept behind the movie is mind bending but once understood it makes perfect sense which got me absolutely pumped, and made me like the movie even more. I also enjoyed the ending this flick had, it left the viewer at the edge of his seat, and the way it was done was phenomenal. This is by far one of my favorite movies.

5.       Title:fight club
Starring:Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter

Information:A ticking-time-bomb insomniac and a slippery soap salesman channel primal male aggression into a shocking new form of therapy. Their concept catches on, with underground "fight clubs" forming in every town, until an eccentric gets in the way and ignites an out-of-control spiral toward oblivion.
Impact/ reflection:this flick, like inception, was a complete and total “mind freak” I thought I had captured everything about the movie probably half way through, which I am pretty proud of because it was still pretty hard to follow. But reaching the end of the movie when they reveal that the soap salesman was the same guy as the insomniac, and that the insomniac had actually created this man, and had made up the whole thing it really made me rethink everything I thought I knew about this movie. For example it’s like completing a test and at the end of the test there’s a not saying each letter in the multiple choice is actually the one after that, which would obligate you to go back and erase everything and try again, and this is exactly what I loved about this movie it made my head hurt, it made me scream WHATTT!!!?? This shock value is exactly what I look for in all movies.

B.      Movies I dislike

1.       Title- Spirit
Starring-Matt Damon, James Cromwell and Daniel Studi

Info-The mustang stallion Spirit grows up to proudly succeed his father as leader of the Cimarron herd in the unspoiled Wild West. When 'civilization' reaches Dakota Territory, naive curiosity gets him caught by cowboys and sold to the US Cavalry. Its method of training by breaking a horse fails utterly on him. Just when the colonel intends to shoot Spirit, the equally indomitable captured young Lakota brave, Little Creek, escapes on his back. He also tricks him to a coral with his beloved mare, but shows respect and wins some trust. As the railroad arrives, the Indian village is wrecked and Spirit gets captured for use as a draft-horse. When the stallion realizes this project threatens his whole world, he escapes and unleashes the fury of a force of nature, ultimately teaming up with Little Creek.

Impact/reflection- I actually don’t remember the movie that well because the last time I saw this flick was when I was 9 or maybe younger. I actually had to read a few summaries on this movie to freshen up my hatred. I remember the first time I saw this movie I gave it a chance, even though I didn’t like it, because everyone else did. The second time I absolutely began does hate this movie. I found it boring, at least for a nine year old. Not only did I not like the movie but I hate the whole theme. This is probably why I dislike this film. I’ve always had a sense of cheesiness when it came to cowboy related movies. This sense is still present.

2.       Title:piranha 3-D
Starring: Elisabeth Shue, Jerry O'Connell and Richard Dreyfuss

Information:Lake Victoria's annual spring party by 50,000 young revelers is about to turn into a feeding frenzy with prehistoric hunger-pains. With knee-trembler above the waves and tremors below, released from their dormant sleep, thousands upon thousands of flesh-eating nippers are released into the lake with whetted appetites and razor-sharp teeth. With a motley crew of strangers thrown together to defend these shores, it is now up to them to prevent the largest eat-out in human, and piranha, history.

Reflection/ impact: ok so the first time I saw this it was I think for my birthday? Not too sure, but anyway when I saw this it was with a couple of my friends and my dad, and somehow Quique had convinced me to pick this particular movie, did not know if it was the gore or the nudity that did it, but it worked. First the experience I had with this movie was not a good one considering my dad was near me and I was watching a movie with some partial nudity, later absolutely ruined with bloody gore. There really one no point to this movie, I didn’t like it very much cause im not really a fan of gory situations. The worst part would have to be where piranhas actually ripped a man’s genitals off, as they viciously fought for it. It was highly disturbing.

3.       Title: The dilemma
Starring:Vince Vaughn, Kevin James and Winona Ryder

Information:A man finds out that what you don't say to a friend is just as important as what you do is this story of how far you can bend a brotherly bond before it snaps. Since college, confirmed bachelor Ronny (Vaughn) and happily married Nick (James) have been through thick and thin. Now partners in an auto design firm, the two pals are vying to land a dream project that would launch their company. Ronny's girlfriend, Beth (Connelly), and Nick's wife, Geneva (Ryder), are by their sides. But Ronny's world is turned upside down when he inadvertently sees Geneva out with another man and makes it his mission to get answers. As the amateur investigation dissolves into mayhem, he learns that Nick has a few secrets of his own. Now, with the clock ticking and pressure mounting on the biggest presentation of their careers, Ronny must decide what will happen if he reveals the truth to his best friend.

Impact/ reflection: First of all I had horrible expectations for the movie, I don’t really like Kevin James and Vince is funny once in a while, when I did see this movie though I was even more disappointed, even though I had low expectations for the movie, the movie didn’t even do that well, it lowered my impression even more. It was horrendous, the plot was horrible, I felt bad for the poor guy, that situation dint seem even that funny to me. I was at a point where I’d rather stare at paint dry.
